Debra Barron brings over 20 years of investment banking experience in corporate finance and capital markets to Viking Mergers & Acquisitions. Throughout her career, she has advised C‑suite executives and Boards on domestic and cross‑border M&A transactions across the U.S. and emerging markets.
Motivated by a desire to contribute to Africa’s economic development, Debra relocated to South Africa and spent 13 years with Standard Bank Group, the largest bank in Africa, where she served as EVP on the M&A advisory team. She led the execution of local and cross‑border acquisitions, divestitures and equity capital raises across the continent. While she worked closely with multinational corporations, her most rewarding engagements were with owner‑operated and family‑owned businesses, where she felt her work directly supported entrepreneurs shaping their communities.
Debra’s deal‑execution skills were developed in the U.S. at Citi’s investment bank and later with a SPAC based in Los Angeles. She began her career in accounting at PricewaterhouseCoopers in audit then The Walt Disney Company in financial reporting.
Debra now leverages her extensive institutional M&A background to serve lower‑middle‑market entrepreneurs. She brings a collaborative style, rigorous analytical discipline and an empathetic mindset to guiding business owners through what is often the single largest financial and emotional transaction of their lives.
Debra holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Babson College, where she was also a varsity athlete in soccer and lacrosse. Now based in Raleigh, North Carolina, she enjoys spending time outdoors and playing sports with her son. Family remains at the center of her life, whether with her small immediate family or her large extended one.
