Viking Intern Returns to App State With Valuable Experience

Vikingmergers

We were extremely fortunate to have Conrad Nelsen spend three months with the Viking Mergers & Acquisitions team in Charlotte, NC. Conrad was our Spring 2020 recipient of the Viking Entrepreneur Endorsement Scholarship. He is working towards a double major at Appalachian State University in Finance & Banking and Risk Management & Insurance, along with a minor in Accounting.

Conrad’s role this summer at Viking was a Financial Analyst and Client Services Intern. This internship was Conrad’s first experience in an office setting and the “real business” world. He spent time learning how to properly complete a business valuation, how to read multiple types of financial statements, and what is important to look for when completing a valuation.

After learning the business valuation process, Conrad learned the process of buying and selling a business. He reflected, “The process is very detail-oriented. It takes a lot of time and hard work to get through stages such as initial listing, confidential marketing, buyer qualification, due diligence, and closing. Viking has many experienced senior advisors who have taught me valuable information and helped me throughout the learning process.”

Over 50% of Viking advisors have owned their own business, and many of them previously sold or bought a business through Viking. In Conrad’s words, “It has been so valuable to learn from advisors who have first-hand experience buying and selling a business. Jay and the Viking team have taught me to work professionally and with the utmost respect and integrity as we at Viking work with people on their most valuable asset. I would like to thank Jay and the rest of the Viking team for this amazing opportunity and for teaching me very valuable skills and knowledge that I will hold with me for the rest of my life.”

At Viking, we believe in fostering and encouraging the entrepreneurs of tomorrow. This is why we created our Entrepreneur Endorsement Scholarship. The scholarship is designed to help offset the costs of education for college students who have demonstrated an interest in entrepreneurship.
